About
Chandani was first introduced to American Style Belly Dance back in the mid 1980’s when living in Washington state. She saw her first live performance at a family friend’s birthday party. Mesmerized by the grace and beauty of the dance she promptly called the dancer up to inquire about lessons. Ne-Kajira Jannan, the director of the Amaal Dance Company from Port Orchard, Washington, where the beginner class was invited to join in a Summer Solstice performance and that was the start of her love of performance.
Chandani began teaching first to friends and, as word spread, began teaching larger classes. Chandani’s teaching style is much like her performing style, lively, exuberant, and fun. She has a passion for dance that she loves to share with others as others have shared with her.
Throughout the years, she has been inspired by a number of master instructors and is extremely grateful for their enthusiasm and for sharing their love of the dance with her. Some of her favorite dancers are Suzanna DelVecchio, Aziza, Fatima, Saqra, Souzana and Morocco just to name a few. Chandani is also one of the founding members of Tundar Carvan Middle Eastern Dance Company whose mission it is further the education and appreciation of Middle Eastern Dance in the Fairbanks Alaska. She has since moved back to her home town of Oak Harbor, WA where she continues to teach and perform.
